yi(3) hou(4)

Recommended Posts

I've been reading in my "Communicate in Chinese" book and I have a grammar question. I've noticed in sentences that yi(3) hou(4) follows a time reference.

Wo(3) ba(1) dian(3) yi(3) hou(4) geng(4) mang(2). Lit.

I 8:00 after even more busy.

My question is:

Is this a general rule for a time reference and the use of yi hou. If I were to substitute words like now, tomorrow, next year, etc. for 8:00 would I still insert yi hou in the same place?

Thanks,

Freshy

Yes & No, depending on what you mean to say.

Yi3 hou4 mean "after", so if you want to say:

I'll be (even) busier tomorrow (no yi3 hou4 )

I'll be (even) busier after tomorrow (add yi3 hou4 after the word "tomorrow")

Hope this help.
