I'm not going to Qingdao to teach or work, so it might be a little harder for me to find ppl to hangout with. Are there any big forums or social networks out there for qingdao expats? I'm in my 20s, so looking for people around that age. Also, are there any expat hiking groups? I'm going to bring my daypack and hiking boots. Not sure if it is the biggest forum but it should still generate some info for you. If you look to meet some people then check the Redstar Magazine (available in many bars and hotels) for events. Sign up for their weekly email. Another good source is www.qingdaonese.com where you can find out what's happening. There are a few hiking groups but they are mostly pure Chinese. Myself, I go running with the local Hash House Harriers who meet every Saturday for a run/walk in different parts of the city. Good luck in QD. It's a nice place.
