歐博思 Posted August 4, 2011 at 07:42 AM Report Share Posted August 4, 2011 at 07:42 AM (edited) What would be a good onomatopoeia to express a battle cry, and then another particle to express a meek 'yay!' to offset the battle cry to be funny? :: found this via the forums http://www.papahuhu.com/vocabulary/animaltalk.html 吼 used on a person can be a funny battle cry? What about the meek expression? Edited August 4, 2011 at 08:03 AM by 欧博思
creamyhorror Posted August 4, 2011 at 04:22 PM Report Share Posted August 4, 2011 at 04:22 PM That's an interesting question. I wonder how this sort of humour would translate into Chinese.
jasoninchina Posted August 5, 2011 at 05:09 AM Report Share Posted August 5, 2011 at 05:09 AM The first question would be to ask what we say in English. When I think of a battle cry, I usually think "Freedom!" But that's because I've seen Braveheart too many times. Second, I think "ah!" In that case, "啊!" But would that make any sense to Chinese? I know it can symbolize yelling, but a battle cry? I don't know. The second one is a little harder. What would we even say in English? roddy Posted August 5, 2011 at 11:58 AM Report Share Posted August 5, 2011 at 11:58 AM For the attackers I'd expect to see 冲! Can't find any examples though, and it's not onomatopoeia.
