They used to be broadcast in Cantonese. I guess some time in the early 90s someone thought that was wrong or something. Actually I don't even know, I've been watching HK shows and programs since 1989 tiananmen. No one would watch mainland shows back then, most of them were garbage, and CCTV had only 1 channel broadcasting news all day.
