Mike N Posted September 28, 2011 at 10:16 PM Report Share Posted September 28, 2011 at 10:16 PM Many of the 成语 have stories behind them (obviously there are instances of this throughout the Chinese language; a personal favorite being 矛盾), and I'm looking for a resource (web or otherwise) to learn about them. I'm aware of various online dictionaries, and while they're useful for context, meaning, etc., they don't give me the background of the 成语 (assuming there is one). Anyone know of some good resources? jkhsu Posted September 28, 2011 at 10:53 PM Report Share Posted September 28, 2011 at 10:53 PM Were you looking for them in English or Chinese? Here's a link (actually two links that seem to have the same content) in Chinese: http://www.tonghua5.com/chengyugushi/ http://www.gushi51.com/chengyugushi/ And here's a link to your 自相矛盾 story: http://www2.gushi51.com/zg/2492.html
Mike N Posted September 28, 2011 at 11:02 PM Author Report Share Posted September 28, 2011 at 11:02 PM Thanks jkhsu! These are great links. Also, I discovered that by googling the actual chengyu instead of looking for chengyu stories or something like that I had much better results. My Google kung fu is weak tonight! Update: Founds this neat site too: http://www.chinesestoryonline.com/idiom-story/66-zi-xiang-mao-dun.html
