valikor Posted February 5, 2012 at 02:04 PM Report Share Posted February 5, 2012 at 02:04 PM I've come across a character composed of 卒+瓦 (cei4 -- apparently meaning to break/smash) twice in the past couple weeks while watching TV. I tried to type this using pinyin (I use Google pinyin), and also tried using Wubi, as well as Ncicku's handwriting recognition. As far as I can see, this character does not exist, but I have seen it in subtitles twice--so what's the deal?

Kobo-Daishi Posted February 5, 2012 at 03:14 PM Report Share Posted February 5, 2012 at 03:14 PM Dear all, According to the Dictionary of Chinese Character Variants put out by The Republic of China (Taiwan)'s Ministry of Education, the character is in the Shuowen Jiezi. http://140.111.1.40/yitic/frc/frc07647.htm Kobo-Daishi, PLLA. Kobo-Daishi Posted February 5, 2012 at 03:34 PM Report Share Posted February 5, 2012 at 03:34 PM Dear all, And as Skylee has pointed out in one of the threads linked to above, the entry is in the Xiandai Hanyu Cidian. So it would be considered a part of modern standard Chinese. Kobo-Daishi, PLLA.
