1314 and other numbers expressing love

Recommended Posts

vinhlong

The other day I had a conversation with a friend of mine. She told me 1314 stood for 一生一死.

520 was supposed to mean something like 'I love you' but she couldn't remember how this is derived.

Does anybody know?

Are there more of these numbers?

'0' for '你' comes from the phonetic similarity (not that close admittedly) between '零 líng' and '您 nín', the formal version of 你.

In some southern dialects, words that are pronounced with an initial "n" in standard Mandarin are pronounced with an initial "l". When these non-native Mandarin speakers speak Mandarin, they often continue to confuse the two sounds (I hear it frequently here in Taiwan), perhaps this term was coined by someone from the southern part of China.

I've thought this trend came form Taiwan and spread at a gallop with the prevalence of SMS, but not for sure.

no, xiaocai, I think you are wrong.

As of Zhe Jiang People (in east China), when they speak rou (肉), they generally pronounce lou(漏).

that's the accent differences. not from Taiwan at all.

哦,实际上,我只是极其主观地, 。因为我在还很小的时候听过台湾女歌手范晓萱的一首歌叫做《数字恋爱》,那个时候手机根本就还没有普及,更不用说短信息,而我也刚刚开始听流行歌曲……所以记忆非常深刻!

可以归为“元老级”的代号,也就是出现在这首歌里面的数字:520,570,530等等。

看来第一次接触到的东西,总是会留下最深刻的印象。或者说,先入为主了。 :D

Both people in the south of China and people in Taiwan confuse l and n. So the nin => ling connecting might have come from either. (In Taiwanese, 你 is pronouced li.)

If it were that precise, you can't form any code at all.

I think this is very creative way of Chinese people to use short message. I have seen they use this kind of code with those old style pager which could only display numbers, not alphabets. And they could convey many meanings especially about love.

I'm guessing this means 我愛你too => I love you too. But that's just guessing.
