jkhsu Posted October 9, 2012 at 05:04 AM Report Share Posted October 9, 2012 at 05:04 AM They're having another Taiwan Film Days in San Francisco this weekend (October 12-14). Does anyone have any recs for me? I'm planning to see Joyful Reunion (饮食男女-好远又好近). http://sffs.org/Exhibition/SF-Film-Society-Cinema/Taiwan-Film-Days
gato Posted October 9, 2012 at 05:37 AM Report Share Posted October 9, 2012 at 05:37 AM Definitely see Edward Yang's "A Bright Summer Day" if you haven't seen it. It is one of the most memorable movies I've ever seen.
jkhsu Posted October 10, 2012 at 12:35 AM Author Report Share Posted October 10, 2012 at 12:35 AM Thanks gato. I'm not sure I can sit through 4 hours of film though. Edit: I found it online. Will try to watch this piecemeal.
gato Posted October 10, 2012 at 12:52 AM Report Share Posted October 10, 2012 at 12:52 AM Just think of it as watching two movies back to back. :-)
skylee Posted October 10, 2012 at 02:47 AM Report Share Posted October 10, 2012 at 02:47 AM I completely agree with gato, and clearly remember the click of my knees when I stood up at the end of the 4-hour film. This film and Italian "the best of youth" (saw this one on DVDs, though, because it was a six-hour film) are great.
Meng Lelan Posted October 31, 2012 at 11:20 AM Report Share Posted October 31, 2012 at 11:20 AM Don't know if this movie was shown at the film fest, but yesterday the 台灣書院 in Houston came here to show the film 雞排英雄 (Night Market Hero). Took my kids to the free viewing and they absolutely liked it. It is hard to find family appropriate films these days so that was a nice find.
