Learn Cantonese or Mandarin?

Cantonese should be the first choice for the simple reason that it has syllabic nasal consonants.

However Mandarin has a lot more practical value for travelling and showing off in Chinese restaurants in your home country.

I guess, it all depends on the purpose of learning the language. If the purpose is business or work opportunities, then it probably should be Mandarin. As for myself, I have started with Cantonese, simply because I like it a lot, but planning to learn Mandarin too in the future.
