It is not as easy as I thought. I first tried Carrefour and several small stationary shops in my area but they don't sell birthday cards at all (after asking all of the staff). I had a look online but I can't find the type of gift/card related shops I would find at home (like Clintons, Card Factory etc) in China, as they don't seem too common. Anyone got an idea? I'm quite slow at finding things online using Chinese, so I didn't get very far. Maybe one of the large stationary shops (文具店) would have some good stuff. Does anyone know any? Alternatively, try find the handycrafty, touristy shops in the overly gentrified places, they sometimes have nice cards that can easily be turned into a birthday card by putting Happy birthday on them.
