阿狸陪妈妈去山顶看夕阳。
Ali accompanies his mother to the hilltop for the setting sun.

 

山顶的风有点大。但是妈妈身边很暖和。
It blows strongly on the hilltop. But it's warm to be with mum.

 

夕阳把整个世界都涂上金色，整个山脉散发着光辉。
The whole world is painted golden by the sun, and the mountain is shining.

 

妈妈忽然说，要是她有一天死了，就要埋葬在这儿，这样就能每天看到这里的夕阳了。
Mum says unexpectedly, that if she dies someday, she wants to be buried here, so that she can see the setting sun every day.

 

阿狸问：“死是什么？”
妈妈说：“这可真是一个很难回答的问题，就是暂时离开的意思吧！”
阿狸说：“那多久回来呢？”
妈妈说：“嗯……也许很久……”
Ali asks, "What is death?"

Mum says, "It's a difficult question, which may means leaving temporarily."
Ali says, "For how long, you would be gone? "
Mum says, "MMmmm.. May be very long...”

 

阿狸问：“我乖乖上床睡一个午觉，你就回来了吧？”
妈妈微笑着摇头。
Ali says, "Will you come back when I wake up from my siesta?"
Mum shakes her head smilingly.

 

“我坐小镇的火车，从第一站坐到最后一站，你就回来了吧？”
妈妈微笑着摇头。
Ali asks, “Will you come back when I finish taking a train, from the first station to the last station?"
Mum shakes her head smilingly.

 

“那等我乖乖听你的话，把屋子收拾好，你就回来了吧？”
妈妈微笑着摇头。
"Will you come back when I behave well and tidy up my room?"
Mum shakes her head smilingly.

 

“那等到冬天下学的时候，你就回来了吧？你说过每个冬天都要给我做新帽子的。”
妈妈微笑着摇头。
"Will you come back when winter comes? You promised to make new hat for me every winter."
Mum shakes her head smilingly.

 

“那等到我种的树苗长成大树，你肯定就回来了吧？”
妈妈依然微笑着摇头。
"Will you come back when my sapling grow up to a big tree?"
Mum still shakes her head smilingly.

 

“妈妈，那你什么时候回来呢？”
妈妈笑着摸着阿狸的头说：“我的傻孩子……”
"Mum, when can you come back exactly?"
"My little boy...” Mother gently strokes Ali's head and smiles.

 

“世界上睡得再久的午觉，也能等到醒来的时候……”
“再长的旅行，也能等到终点到达的时候……”
"The longest siesta in the world will be ended...”
"The longest journey will have its destination..."

 

“再冷的冬天，也能等到过去的时候……”
“再嘈杂的世界，也能等到安静的时候……”
"The coldest winter will be followed by warm spring...”
"The noisiest world will have the silent moment...”

 

“可是，只有死亡，却是越等越远啊……”
"But, death is the only thing you can never wait the end...”

 

阿狸哭得很伤心。
“那我是不是就再也见不到你啦？我不要！！”
“不会的，小阿狸。”妈妈抱着阿狸微笑着说……
Ali cried badly.
"Does that mean I'll never see you again? No!"
"Don't be sad, Ali." Mother holds him and smiles...

 

“如果有一天我不在了，你尽管再也听不到我的声音……”
"If I'm gone someday, you will never hear me..."

“再也看不到我……”
"And you will never see me..."

 

“但是你会感觉到，我在安静地陪伴着你。当你在后花园的时候，我从厨房的窗户安静地看着你。”
"But you will feel that I'm always around you. When you are in the back garden, I'm looking at you from the kitchen window quietly."

 

“当你在厨房的时候，我在卧室为你打着毛衣。”
"When you are in the kitchen, I'm knitting a sweater for you in the bedroom."

 

“当你在卧室的时候，我在客厅看着报纸；你在客厅的时候，我在后花园整理我的百合花。你看不到我，我却未曾远离过你。”
"When you are in the bedroom, I'm reading newspaper in the living room; when you are in the living room, I'm taking care of my lily in the back garden. Even though you cannot see me any longer, I'm never far from you."

 

“我的小阿狸，你要知道，我永远爱着你。”
"My little Ali, what you should know is I'll always love you."

 

于是，在那个黄昏，听不太懂的小阿狸忽然觉得，有些悲伤和幸福。
And then, in that dusk, Ali suddenly feels a sad and happy.

 

With Mother's Day approaching, a short animation entitled Mother, telling a story of a red cartoon fox popular in China, and his mother, became available online on May 9.
 
Mother is the second of a planned seven episodes of an animation series about the fox named Ali. The six-minute-long animation is based on a story from Xu Han's first picture book, Ali And The Dream Castle, and features Ali's dialogue with his mother about love and death.
 
Xu's three picture books about the red fox have sold more than 1.5 million copies in the past several years. Ali, together with Hello Kitty and Minnie Mouse, has been nominated for the 2014 Licensing Excellence Awards for the second year.
 
According to the Beijing Dream Castle Culture Company, the first episode of the Ali animation series has received more than 2 million hits on China’s major online video websites within one month of being released in March.

The video was good, some good vocabulary...always good to get some philosophy mixed in with language practice, no?

 

But one issue I had was the music quite often drowned out the speaking.

The video was not specifically designed in order to help people learn Chinese, so there are no practice;)

To me, any 2nd language event is a kind of practice.  I either learn something new, or solidify what I already know, or I get used to a new accent, etc.
