DavidNguyen Posted May 26, 2014 at 07:55 PM Report Share Posted May 26, 2014 at 07:55 PM So I've actually became interested in the Japanese Biwa, which came from the Chinese Pipa, but they are very expensive. I noticed that it sounds a lot like a Pipa but with a buzz effect. So this brings up the question. Are there any devices or any way to give a Chinese Pipa a buzzing effect? Hofmann Posted May 27, 2014 at 06:46 AM Report Share Posted May 27, 2014 at 06:46 AM You'll have to angle the neck so that the string will be closer and therefore buzz. It's a complicated modification; just get a biwa. Edit: Maybe you can try changing the tailpiece to a shorter one. I can't think of anything non-permanent. DavidNguyen Posted May 27, 2014 at 02:43 PM Author Report Share Posted May 27, 2014 at 02:43 PM Yeah, buying a Biwa would take years to save up for. I know on a guitar you can put something under the strings to get a buzz effect. How big is the distance between the strings and the body of a Pipa?
