lechuan Posted January 12, 2015 at 12:03 AM Report Share Posted January 12, 2015 at 12:03 AM Is there any way to skip the ads with the scantily clad ladies? It kind of limits how freely I can access or share posts at work, with friends, etc.
roddy Posted January 12, 2015 at 12:08 AM Report Share Posted January 12, 2015 at 12:08 AM Ha, that shouldn't be happening. Are you logged in?
lechuan Posted January 12, 2015 at 02:15 AM Author Report Share Posted January 12, 2015 at 02:15 AM I believe it showed up on the login page.
jbradfor Posted January 12, 2015 at 04:31 AM Report Share Posted January 12, 2015 at 04:31 AM As much as I enjoy the eye candy (and I do!), I agree with lechuan that it makes sharing posts with others (who almost certainly aren't logged in) every so slightly questionable. anonymoose Posted January 12, 2015 at 05:25 AM Report Share Posted January 12, 2015 at 05:25 AM That's Roddy's ploy for getting more visitors to the site.
roddy Posted January 12, 2015 at 09:57 AM Report Share Posted January 12, 2015 at 09:57 AM Right, I thought I had the dating ads blocked, but it appears those filters got reset. Or I never set them, this was years back. I've blocked anything I can see that might be an issue. It might take a while for that to take effect. I'm permanently logged in, so never see ads, and didn't get any dating ads when I logged out. If you see something that's a problem let me know - easiest if you just let me know the url of the advertised site if you can see it without clicking, as I can then figure out what category and / or specific site to block. An email (admin@chinese-forums.com) is preferable, but whatever's easy for you.

roddy Posted January 12, 2015 at 10:15 PM Report Share Posted January 12, 2015 at 10:15 PM No worries. Looks like there's a delay of up to 24 hours, but we should be good after that.
jbradfor Posted January 12, 2015 at 10:31 PM Report Share Posted January 12, 2015 at 10:31 PM So if we don't see liuzhou posting for the next 24 hours we know why?
roddy Posted January 12, 2015 at 10:37 PM Report Share Posted January 12, 2015 at 10:37 PM I believe there are more efficient ways to obtain smut on the Internet than logging out and reloading the page till you get a dating ad...
Shelley Posted January 12, 2015 at 10:39 PM Report Share Posted January 12, 2015 at 10:39 PM I have never had that happen, but I use Facebook to login with so maybe that's why.
roddy Posted January 12, 2015 at 10:48 PM Report Share Posted January 12, 2015 at 10:48 PM Interestingly, when I look at the tackier categories - dating, drugs & supplement, weight-loss - we don't show many of those ads, but they punch above their weight in terms of revenue. There's a ridiculous 'You'll never believe what they found hiding in your stomach' ad in the pharmaceuticals category, which (the category, not that ad) accounted for 0.1% of ad views, but 2.6% of revenue. Biggest single category for us is Jobs and Education, which seems entirely appropriate.
anonymoose Posted January 12, 2015 at 11:18 PM Report Share Posted January 12, 2015 at 11:18 PM Maybe you should reinstate the smutty ads then. Even if we don't get any constructive posts out of liuzhou, at least you'll be able to make some money.
