li3wei1 Posted January 14, 2015 at 06:57 PM Report Posted January 14, 2015 at 06:57 PM I can find Chinese terms for ferris wheel, roller coaster, etc., but they all use different terms. Is there a single word that means 'ride', in the sense of a mechanical thing that carries people around for a while but doesn't take them anywhere, involving a lot of shaking, spinning, strange motion, and possibly going past some scenery and sound effects? anonymoose Posted January 15, 2015 at 12:30 AM Report Posted January 15, 2015 at 12:30 AM I have no idea, but my 语感 tells me that it's probably 项目. Quote
tooironic Posted January 15, 2015 at 01:55 AM Report Posted January 15, 2015 at 01:55 AM "Ride" in this context is translated as 游乐设施. I found this translation on dict.baidu.com, and it's taken from the 柯林斯高阶英汉词典. There is a Baidu page on it as well. Quote
陳德聰 Posted January 15, 2015 at 02:26 AM Report Posted January 15, 2015 at 02:26 AM I just refer to all of those things as "過山車" unless there's need for the clinical feeling of 遊樂設施. Edit: I found the word I would use: 娛樂設備 <- this sounds less weird than 遊樂設施. Quote
li3wei1 Posted January 15, 2015 at 08:16 AM Author Report Posted January 15, 2015 at 08:16 AM Many thanks! Edit: it looks from jukuu.com that 娱乐设备 is more often used for what we call home entertainment systems, though there's a bit of overlap. And jukuu seems to have a bias towards electronics, so not quite sure. Also 游乐设施 appears in sentences that seem quite informal, so I think I'll go with that one. Quote
skylee Posted January 15, 2015 at 05:11 PM Report Posted January 15, 2015 at 05:11 PM You might find this webpage (take a look at both the English and Chinese versions) useful - http://www.emsd.gov.hk/emsd/eng/pps/amr.shtml The term 機動遊戲 is quite common over here. 1 Quote
