Help with 'The rabbit and tortoise' story

大家好,

I came across a story today and was wondering about the translation of some words.

1. What do the underlined parts translate into?

Sentence: 这样一想,兔子来了

(I know that 睡觉 is a separable verb)

2. What do the underlined parts translate into?

Sentence: 乌龟在后面不停地向前爬,从兔子身边爬了过去,一直爬到了终点,得了第一名,...

I am quite confused on why 了and 过 are together and how 从, 身边,  and 去 are used here.

3. Unrelated question: how are 造 and 造出 different? Don't both mean to create? Also, does 种 mean 'a kind (that is both good and convenient)?'

造出 Context: 公元一0五年,中国有个叫蔡伦的人,决心造出又好又方便 的东西,给人们写字。

造 context (This one was used in the title): 蔡伦

4. Unrelated question: what is 拿下来?how are the words divided?

context: 纸浆干了以后,拿下来就成了纸。

Thank you! 谢谢。

I'll try. (I may be wrong, please correct me then)

1. When he thought about it, the rabbit fell asleep at once.

2. overtook the rabbit ("coming from rabbit's side, climbed past [him]")

3. Both mean to create. My Chinese is limited, and I can't tell you where the difference lies.

The meaning here is "decided to create something useful"  ("decided to create a sort of  both good and convenient thing")

4. 下来 is a frequent "suffix" after verbs, it indicates completion here. (After this concoction dries up, what's left is paper.)

1 起来

2 过去

4 下来

These are compound direction complements, your grammar book may call them another name,

anyway, they change the meaning of the verb they follow. This was discussed here.

in 1, when used with a separable verb, the compound directional complement is split up.

in 2, when used with particle 了 expressing the past aspect of the verb, the compound directional complement is after 了

in 3 I think 出 is a result complement. It also alters/refines the meaning of the preceding verb.
