twinmatrix Posted January 14, 2016 at 11:43 AM Report Share Posted January 14, 2016 at 11:43 AM Sometime ago I found this really popular language learning website where people can ask for translations and you can give them to others. Does anyone know what I mean? I remember I corrected some Dutch sentences and got points and could use those to post questions about Japanese. For example, I want to know how to say "Americano" (the coffee), or some slang stuff that I can't find in official literature. Can't find the website back. twinmatrix Posted January 14, 2016 at 11:58 AM Author Report Share Posted January 14, 2016 at 11:58 AM Hmm, no, that's not it. It was more like a Q&A or community website than a "dictionary" feeling. Also I think the main colors were..blue-ish...but not sure.

Demonic_Duck Posted January 16, 2016 at 01:18 AM Report Share Posted January 16, 2016 at 01:18 AM I want to know how to say "Americano" If that was the actual question you want to ask rather than just an example, the answer is 美式咖啡. I think HiNative is the offering from the makers of Lang8 that's specifically designed for Q&A. GoVoluble is also a good option (link in my sig, though I'm not affiliated, I just recommend it). lips Posted January 16, 2016 at 02:36 AM Report Share Posted January 16, 2016 at 02:36 AM Strictly speaking, café Americano is not the same as brewed coffee in the U.S. (or a regular coffee at Starbucks worldwide). For those who have ordered a 美式咖啡 at a Starbucks in China, would they serve you a real café Americano or just a brewed coffee?
Demonic_Duck Posted January 16, 2016 at 03:35 AM Report Share Posted January 16, 2016 at 03:35 AM Not sure, never ordered it. I'm pretty sure they'd give you whatever they give you when you ask for an Americano at any Starbucks in the world (i.e. a shot of espresso + hot water). Edit: 百度百科's entry on 美式咖啡 “美式咖啡”(英文:Americano,意大利语:Caffè Americano)咖啡的一种,是最普通的咖啡。是使用滴滤式咖啡壶所制作出的黑咖啡,又或者是意式浓缩中加入大量的水制成。口味比较淡。因为一般的萃取时间相对较长(大概四五分钟),所以咖啡因含量较高。 Seems like the author of the article doesn't know the difference between an Americano and a filter coffee, but either way it's the correct translation for "Americano".
