Popular Post Yadang Posted September 25, 2016 at 09:31 AM Popular Post Report Posted September 25, 2016 at 09:31 AM I’ve been wanting to make an index for flashcard decks of movies made with Subs2SRS. There are few floating around on the internet, and many have expired links. I hope this thread will help fill the gap. Please comment with any Subs2SRS decks you’ve made/found, and I’ll update this post with a link. Also, please report any errors you find! Click on the names to download the Anki file. Because the files are too big to upload to Chinese-Forums, the links will direct you to a file on my Google Drive. You can download without having an account or signing in. I've tried to make all of the decks in the same format, although I haven't deleted information to accomplish. This means, some decks have simplified, traditional, pinyin and English, while others have only simplified. If the original sources were packaged in a zip folder, I repackaged the deck and media for the deck in a .anki file, so all the user has to do is download and open in anki. I've also added tags and sorted by the sequence# (so that the movie is in order). If I changed the deck from the original, the name of the maker will lead to the original deck (or, in the case of TED talks, the source of the video). All decks are in the Cloze deletion format, so all that has to be done by the user is select words to cloze out. Because some of the videos don't have any English translations, while some don't even have English subtitles, I suggest using Imron's Chinese Text Analyzer to create English Definitions and pinyin entries for all the words you don't know. This will save a huge amount of time compared to doing it manually. In order to create a deck that is customized with all definitions and pinyin of words you don't know using CTA, please see this thread. Several tags have been added to all decks. The user can filter by: - Title - Type (movie/tv show/TED talk) - Simp/Trad subtitles - Whether the movie was originally made in Mandarin, Cantonese (although the audio will still be in Mandarin), or a foreign language (still, the audio will be in Mandarin). - Cards with English definitions (for the two decks that select definitions/pinyin were manually entered) Stats: As of Nov 18, 2016, 14,487 cards have been collected, consisting of a total of 96,800 words (9,772 unique words), and 3,295 unique characters. Master Decks All Decks - as of Nov 18, 2016 - this will import all decks into anki (21 decks), with each separate movie/TV show/TED talk having it's own deckMaster Deck - as of Nov 18, 2016 - this will import all movies/TV shows/TED talks, but will do so into one master deck (users select which material to study using the filters listed above) Movies 20 Once Again (重返20岁) █ CN █ 1743 Notes █ Simp, Trad, Pinyin, Eng █ Made by FlickserveBook of Love/Finding Mr. Right 2 (北京遇上西雅图之不二情书).apkg █ CN █ 2179 Notes █ Simp, Trad, Pinyin, Eng █ Made by FlickserveFearless █ CN █ 499 Notes █ Simp █ Made by HerrPetersenFirst Time (第一次) 2012 █ CN █ 938 Notes █ Simp, Trad, Pinyin, Eng █ Made by FlickserveIp Man (葉問) █ CN █ 257 Notes █ Simp █ Made by HerrPetersenLove is not Blind (失恋33天) █ CN █ 1429 Notes █ Simp, Pinyin (select), Eng, Def (select) █ Made by YadangMy Geeky Nerdy Buddies (大宅男) █ CN █ 653 Notes █ Simp, Trad, Pinyin, Eng █ Made by FlickservePonyo (崖上的波妞/悬崖上的金鱼公主) █ 201 Notes █ Simp, Pinyin, Eng █ Made by GleavesSaving Mr Wu/The Strongest Competitor (解救吾先生/最強對手) █ CN █ 1290 Notes █ Simp, Trad, Pinyin, Eng █ Made by FlickserveThe Assassin (刺客聶隱娘) 2015 █ CN █ 261 Notes █ Simp, Trad, Pinyin, Eng █ Made by FlickserveThe Incredibles (超人总动员) █ 901 Notes █ Simp, Trad, Pinyin, Eng █ Made by FlickserveTotoro (龙猫) █ 141 Notes █ Simp, Pinyin, Eng █ Made by GleavesYou Are the Apple of my Eye (那些年) █ CN █ 1346 Notes █ Trad, Pinyin (select), Eng, Def (select) █ Made by Yadang TV Shows FenDou (奋斗) ep 01 █ CN █ 658 Notes █ Simp █ Made by dtcameroMy Best Ex-Boyfriend (最佳前男友) ep 01 █ CN █ 605 Notes █ Simp, Eng █ Made by YadangMy Sunshine (何以笙箫默) ep 01 █ CN █ 442 Notes █ Simp, Eng █ Made by YadangThe Lost Tomb/Grave Robbers' Chronicles/Daomu Biji (盗墓笔记) █ CN █ 416 Notes █ Simp, Eng █ Made by Yadang TED Talks 不完美的美 █ CN █ 278 Notes █ Trad, Eng █ Made by Yadang不怕和世界不一樣 █ CN █ 248 Notes █ Trad, Eng █ Made by Yadang學歷史的大用 █ CN █ 160 Notes █ Trad, Eng █ Made by Yadang逆境中的軟哲學 █ CN █ 341 Notes █ Trad, Eng █ Made by Yadang Note: - “Select” means the definition has only been made for some cards. Popular Post Yadang Posted November 19, 2016 at 08:59 AM Author Popular Post Report Posted November 19, 2016 at 08:59 AM For anyone following this thread, I just made a pretty big update... I've added a few more decks, and more importantly, I've converted all of the decks to the same note format. This makes it much easier to do work on excel with the decks, or make different cards that apply to one's whole collection, as all of the notes are the same format now. It also makes any work done with Chinese Text Analyzer much easier. It's also made it possible for me to add a master deck, consisting of all of the decks, for convenient download. 6 Quote

艾墨本 Posted November 22, 2016 at 04:26 AM Report Posted November 22, 2016 at 04:26 AM This is incredible. Thank you so much! Have you considered making a deck for 欢乐颂? I would benefit from that. Quote

Yadang Posted January 13, 2017 at 09:10 PM Author Report Posted January 13, 2017 at 09:10 PM For anyone following this thread... I think I might have made a mistake (at least in one of the decks I checked) in the card formatting, rendering it so that the clozed out word isn't shown upon the card being flipped... I'm planning on looking into it this weekend... Sorry, 艾墨本, didn't see your post earlier... You're welcome! I haven't considered, but I could... the time consuming part is finding soft subtitles in Chinese... They have the series on youtube, but only with English subs... If you found a source of soft subs for me, I would be glad to do a few. hi IKone152, glad to know it was helpful! Welcome to the forums! Quote
chinesemadrush Posted January 14, 2017 at 10:06 AM Report Posted January 14, 2017 at 10:06 AM I have downloaded the "20 once again" file. Can someone please explain what do I keep getting the error message "Please edit this note and add some cloze deletions. (help)"? I read the help link but do not understand how to proceed. Strange thing is that I do not see the english meaning and chinese words coming out. Thank you. Quote
Flickserve Posted January 14, 2017 at 10:55 AM Report Posted January 14, 2017 at 10:55 AM Ahh. You must be a beginner Anki user. I feel for you as I had my problems with it before. I think that message is actually part of the card and auto appearing. You do not need to do a cloze deletion. It is just a message. What exactly are you trying to use Anki for? Quote
chinesemadrush Posted January 14, 2017 at 12:14 PM Report Posted January 14, 2017 at 12:14 PM but how do I make the english meaning and the chinese word appear? I would like to learn them too but they aren't showing up. Quote
Yadang Posted January 14, 2017 at 10:41 PM Author Report Posted January 14, 2017 at 10:41 PM Hi chinesemadrush, Sorry, that's a problem that I'm planning on fixing soon. For now, you can fix it using the following steps: 1. Select the deck in Anki 2. Go into the browser 3. Click on the "Cards..." button 4. In the "Back Template" box, paste the following: {{Snapshot}}<br><br> {{cloze:Simplified}}<br><br> {{hint:Pinyin}}<br><br> {{hint:English}}<br><br> {{hint:English_Definition}}<br><br> {{Audio}} Note that all of the decks are setup assuming the user will be using simplified Chinese. If you want to use traditional (and the deck has traditional, as "20 Once again" does), follow steps 1-3 above, then: 4. Into "Front Template" paste the following: {{Snapshot}}<br><br> {{cloze:Traditional}}<br><br> {{Proper_Nouns}} 5. Into "Back Template" paste the following: {{Snapshot}}<br><br> {{cloze:Traditional}}<br><br> {{hint:Pinyin}}<br><br> {{hint:English}}<br><br> {{hint:English_Definition}}<br><br> {{Audio}} Let me know if that doesn't work or if you have any questions. 1 Quote
Flickserve Posted January 15, 2017 at 01:57 AM Report Posted January 15, 2017 at 01:57 AM @Yadang, I am not sure if it so helpful for the beginners up to intermediate level Anki users to have the cloze function message and cards. From my point of view, it is a confusing factor for those not familiar with Anki. Quote

Yadang Posted January 15, 2017 at 04:25 AM Author Report Posted January 15, 2017 at 04:25 AM I am not sure if it so helpful for the beginners up to intermediate level Anki users to have the cloze function message and cards. From my point of view, it is a confusing factor for those not familiar with Anki. I agree that Anki can get confusing fast... That's one of the reasons I spend time making all of the decks in the same format. The reason I decided for cloze to be default, is two-fold: First, it's compatible with all of the decks, whereas back>front classic flashcards are only compatible with the decks that have an English translation. Secondly, as I've been doing cloze more and more, I find it to be much faster at acquiring vocabulary than memorizing the whole sentence (as is expected of course). Where there are sentences or phrases or whatever I want to memorize, because it's something I say a lot or something, I just cloze out the whole sentence. This approach I think makes a good balance between learning vocabulary fast (and in context, with audio), while also being able to learn set phrases I know I'll use... This has been my (limited, and by all measures short-term) experience so far, anyways. I've really tried to make it as easy as possible for the beginning anki user... I think the problem is that Anki just has a steep learning curve... Quote

Flickserve Posted January 18, 2017 at 04:30 PM Report Posted January 18, 2017 at 04:30 PM @chinesemadrush referring to my first screenshot, click on browse. That will give you the 'Note'. The Note contains all the information that you need. Click on cards and you get picture two. You can create many different cards from the note. In the 2nd screenshot, the types of cards created are recognition, recall, listening, Eng ->Chn And the design of the card for a recognition card is shown. How do you control what is shown on the front of the card (here is Chinese)? It's by the box that says 'Front template'. For this example, it is 'Hanzi'. The front preview shows you what will show when you first see the card (i.e. the front of the card). In the 'Back template', you see a mass of commands. All these contain the information that you want to back on the back of the card. i.e. what you see after you have tested yourself. If I wanted to add sound to the back card (e.g. a recording of the hanzi), then: click on 'Add field' click on 'sound' add to 'back' and click 'OK' So now sound will be played (if I have that field filled in) when I see the back card when testing myself. The last part I do is to create another deck with just Recognition cards. To do this: search bar type "card:Recognition", then click search. This results in all the recognition cards being shown. Highlight (i.e. select all of them). Click on change deck and everything should be explanatory from there on. 2 Quote
