roddy Posted January 30, 2017 at 02:40 PM Report Share Posted January 30, 2017 at 02:40 PM I had to turn off the Captcha (the 'type this word' type tests you have to do to prove you aren't a spammer) a while back as they were provided by Google and weren't loading from China. Replaced this with question and answer challenges (when was the Beijing Olympics?) but they'll figure those out soon enough, so I'm trying out a new Captcha. Could anyone with the time, and very especially anyone in China, try it out. In an incognito / private browsing window, open either https://www.chinese-forums.com/index.php?/contact/ or https://www.chinese-forums.com/index.php?/register/ and look for the little puzzle by the submit button. Then tell me a) did it work and b) were there any ads (if it works I'll pay for the ad free version, probably) There's no need to actually submit anything, you can complete the Captcha task and get the green tick. But if you want to use the contact form to send me a message, you're welcome. It's just people trying to sell me knock-off trainers as the moment. Publius Posted January 30, 2017 at 03:22 PM Report Share Posted January 30, 2017 at 03:22 PM a) Works fine. b) Ain't see no ads. The Facebook and Twitter buttons are removed automatically by the government. Isn't it nice?
889 Posted January 30, 2017 at 04:23 PM Report Share Posted January 30, 2017 at 04:23 PM Ads show on both those outside Mainland China. That's private browsing on IE and Firefox desktop. And not signed in, of course. Do you intend to use two security checks on the registration page?
roddy Posted January 30, 2017 at 04:28 PM Author Report Share Posted January 30, 2017 at 04:28 PM No, just got them both up while I'm experimenting. I'm not seeing any ads from here - are they particularly intrusive? Thanks, both.
889 Posted January 30, 2017 at 05:00 PM Report Share Posted January 30, 2017 at 05:00 PM It's the same pretty large ad for Keats Chinese School that's appearing right at the top of this page if you visit it when you're not signed in, at least in my case. roddy Posted January 30, 2017 at 05:08 PM Author Report Share Posted January 30, 2017 at 05:08 PM Oh, that's there anyway - sorry, I meant ads associated only with the Captcha. I'm not sure what format they are. I suspect there actually aren't any, as nobody wants to buy ads on a Captcha system.
Publius Posted January 30, 2017 at 05:57 PM Report Share Posted January 30, 2017 at 05:57 PM Hmm, maybe their plan is you can buy ads in the form of a photo, they use that photo to create the jigsaw puzzle.
abcdefg Posted January 31, 2017 at 07:40 AM Report Share Posted January 31, 2017 at 07:40 AM Both worked for me just now (Kunming) without any ads. The green check mark appeared when the image was completed.
roddy Posted January 31, 2017 at 09:13 AM Author Report Share Posted January 31, 2017 at 09:13 AM Excellent. I'll turn off the Q&A challenge and fork out for the more professional looking version. I can actually use any photos I want - maybe we should get new members to do a jigsaw of abcdefg's meals... Edit: Ha, wanted me to create a wallet on some site I'd never heard of to pay with. We'll struggle on with the free version...
889 Posted January 31, 2017 at 09:43 AM Report Share Posted January 31, 2017 at 09:43 AM May be just as well; on mobile moving those tiles around and seeing them clearly can be difficult. But not as bad as the 12306 captcha.
roddy Posted January 31, 2017 at 09:44 AM Author Report Share Posted January 31, 2017 at 09:44 AM Yeah, that's the free version we're struggling on with, I'm afraid.
Mati1 Posted February 1, 2017 at 10:09 AM Report Share Posted February 1, 2017 at 10:09 AM I am not in China; the captcha seems to work here and I don't see any new ads, it is just that Firefox tells me the site also uses Flash which I usually do not allow ... I guess those ads still use Flash.
