Tuberculosis cause deportment?

Recommended Posts

LizCan

Hi,

I was hit by a bus and in my CT they found a shadow which suggested TB. My mantoux skin test for TB turned out negative, and now I am being treated for pneumonia.

But if this doesn't clear up, perhaps they will do more TB testing. Does anyone one know if I will lose my business visa and be deported if the TB test is positive?

I know the hospital has to report all cases of TB to the government.  I have no symptoms of TB nor pneumonia, but I did smoke for years. Does it matter if it is active or latent TB?

If it is not TB or pneumonia, it is possibly lung cancer, but I am not really coughing. Just the occasional fever which is quickly treated by antibiotics. I am a little tired, but that is it. I had pneumonia 2 times already as a child, so this may have caused the shadow on the two CT scans, but I am still worried about the next step. I have an old dog and a home here. I wonder what would happen.

Thanks for any responses.

Liz

I don't know the answer to your question, but the visa application -- for everyone, including tourists -- does ask specifically about tuberculosis, but only about infectious tuberculosis.

"② 传染性肺结核病 Infectious pulmonary tuberculosis"

That suggests there would not be a problem if TB is not at an infectious stage, but that's only a suggestion. However, it is the only disease specifically mentioned by name on the application, suggesting TB is regarded as a serious concern by China.

Diagnosing active tuberculosis will require more than seeing minor changes on a CT scan. The hospital will need to demonstrate presence of the causative organism for TB in sputum samples and, ideally, that they can be grown on sputum culture. This process takes time, in fact several weeks. The skin test is not of much value, one way or the other in a situation like yours, though it has a place in mass screenings.

What I'm saying is that it's too early for you to worry.

Yes, that would matter. But again, lots of things can produce old scars that are incidentally found on a chest CT scan. The appearance and location of the scars makes a difference in the diagnostic process. (For example, changes in the apex are more worrisome for TB. So I suppose you could ask about that.)

Again, I suggest not being overly concerned at this stage. Sorry you got hit by a bus. That cannot have been very much fun.

Thanks, and what about in Hong Kong. Do they have the same regulations about TB? I see people are traveling there with TB medications. I wonder if it wouldn't be better to get tested there instead of main land China

Sorry, I don't know the answer to this.

Generally speaking, Hong Kong offers better medical care than the Chinese Mainland. More in accord with western standards at least. Cost, of course, will be higher.

I am not really worried about the cost. I am worried about my dog and home in China, and being forced to leave everything behind if there is a positive result.
