I have a question about the following sentence:

家里人一点也不高兴因为他的出生让这个家更穷了

 

The general meaning, I understand as: The family members were not happy because his birth has made the family poorer.

 

I don’t understand the structure: 一点也

Should I translated it as “somewhat”?

一点 a little bit

一点也不 not even a little bit

一点也不高兴 not even a little bit happy, ie, entirely unhappy. The 一点 也/都 不 is a set pattern.
