hoshinoumi Posted February 8, 2018 at 12:57 PM Report Share Posted February 8, 2018 at 12:57 PM Hello! I'm looking for a Chinese reader app that works for PC (PDFs). I want something similar to Perapera, where you put your mouse over the words you don't understand and a pop-up with the definition comes up. Do you know of anything similar? I'd be a great help, since I just started reading scientific papers written in Chinese.
imron Posted February 8, 2018 at 02:52 PM Report Share Posted February 8, 2018 at 02:52 PM Although it doesn't work natively with PDF files (yet), you can copy and paste the text from a PDF file in to Chinese Text Analyser which can then do what you want. Shelley Posted February 8, 2018 at 05:26 PM Report Share Posted February 8, 2018 at 05:26 PM I had to change to Zhongwen at the last Fire fox update. I started this topic about it a while ago. https://www.chinese-forums.com/forums/topic/55761-demise-of-perapera-in-firefox/?tab=comments#comment-429793
Luxi Posted February 10, 2018 at 09:32 AM Report Share Posted February 10, 2018 at 09:32 AM On 08/02/2018 at 2:52 PM, imron said: you can copy and paste the text from a PDF file in to Chinese Text Analyser That's a good workaround, though copy is annoyingly disabled in some pdf files. The only app I know that works as a pop-up dictionary with pdfs, docs, and most ebook readers in Windows is MDBG Chinese Reader 8 but it isn't free. It also works in the Edge browser, which means you can use the browser's own reader. It works online and offline. There is a 2-week free trial and the annual subscription makes the price a little less steep - though I wish there was a cheaper version without an included translation credit. georjungcocaine Posted February 10, 2018 at 12:11 PM Report Share Posted February 10, 2018 at 12:11 PM I am also looking for such a resource. Specifically, I'd like to customize it so that its screen shows up in a corner after I hover over words.
