Hi all. Sorry for jumping on this post. Could someone look at this old tattoo I got nearly 20 years ago and see if anyone knows what it says. Thank you.

Is it Chinese? Even upside down, it does not look familiar.

It seems like the Chinese character 义 or 气 or the combination, but it it not that clear to recognize😐. Is it painful to have this tattoo?

My best bet is 氣,air/gas but also "vital energy". It's a stretch of the imagination though!

That's OK. Time to make up a really good story for anyone who asks.

"There I was, finally crossing out of the Hindu Kush with my frostbitten foot, into the green plains of tropical Burma after two and a half months on the trail. It looked like I would actually make it alive. Had to do something to commemorate the occasion. This old fellow approached, bony with skin resembling dark leather, wearing a loincloth and improvised turban above round wire-framed glasses. "Tattoo, Sahib?" he croaked in some semblance of English, a language I had not heard or spoken since sometime last fall....
