Outofin Posted August 27, 2005 at 08:40 PM Report Share Posted August 27, 2005 at 08:40 PM I watched the movie Kinsey last night. Kinsey began his sex studies in 1938 and published his book Behavior in the Human Male in 1947. From what I saw in the movie, I think he put sex in a too scientific way. He made his research like an animal behavior study. His view of sexuality was way ahead of the time he lived in. He eventually challenged the society's sexual morality. I couldn't entirely accept his view, even more than half century after. The movie made two scripts into my mind. We are so keen to be a part of a group that we betray our own natures. --- Professor Kinsey, commenting that everyone wants to have sex "normally". F***ing is not something. It is the whole thing! --- his assistant challenges him. Put the subject back to China. Do we have a scientist doing this kind of job that Dr Kinsey did many years ago? What would (s)he face in today's Chinese society? I know that there's a professor 潘绥铭 in Renmin Univ doing sex studies. We students got some questionnaires from him in my middle school and college. And I read his book 存在与荒谬. But I think we need some more generalized study like Kinsey's book.
aeon Posted August 27, 2005 at 10:02 PM Report Share Posted August 27, 2005 at 10:02 PM Hope that if a Chinese scientist does a sex survey in China, he takes a more representative sample than Kinsey did...
Outofin Posted August 28, 2005 at 02:47 PM Author Report Share Posted August 28, 2005 at 02:47 PM What Kinsey did was interviews, because he thought questionnaire was not a reliable source. (I don't know what many samples he had.) He trained his assistants some techniques to obtain truthful data from people. I agree with that questionnaire is not reliable, because of my experiece about the survey I took. I was, perhaps from 12 to 15. After class before we left, the teacher asked the whole class to fill out the survey. I couldn't fill all of the questions and I didn't understand every of them. Length of your penis? That was funny. Did they assume that every boy measured his penis? After a while, some students finished their questions and began to leave. I started to wonder if I should stay here longer which would make me look stupid and pervert. I finished it as quick as possible and left. Today, when I think about my questionnaire, it is obviously worthless.
paul62tiger Posted August 29, 2005 at 11:39 PM Report Share Posted August 29, 2005 at 11:39 PM If my teacher had wanted to know details about the boy's penis I suspect question may have been asked of them.
gougou Posted August 30, 2005 at 04:49 AM Report Share Posted August 30, 2005 at 04:49 AM Just a short note OT: has anybody noticed the high ratio between views and replies in this thread? Just what are people expecting? It seems that sex still sells, even in a forum about Chinese culture...
Outofin Posted August 30, 2005 at 03:33 PM Author Report Share Posted August 30, 2005 at 03:33 PM Hehe, true, true. I didn't notice that. If I put the title as Professor Pan's onerous research work, wonder how many people would bother clicking it.
