Mail in China Requires phone#?

This seemed like the closest category I could ask this question.  I am currently residing in Hangzhou, China and had my parents mail me some important documents (USPS) from the US in order for me to find a job that would help me get my Z Visa.  I am currently on a multi-entry Q2 Visa.  Anyway, I just found out after they shipped it that it requires my phone number, if no phone number then I would not receive a text message about the code for the mail box and if there is no code then they won't deliver it.

Is there anyone who is living or had lived in China that has had this happen to them before?  Do you think they would try to deliver it to my apartment? Hold it at the office until I come looking for it?  I've tried looking at the Tracking number and all it says is, "arrived at China facility".   Probably a lost cause, but I just thought id explore every angle.

Thanks in advance to anyone who has any incite on this issue
