I would be really interested to hear how others deal with this concept in translation

although of course 雅 and 俗 are so much more than this, and the sentence itself has a lot of background to understand to really get the meaning. The translation above is pretty meaningless without knowing who is saying it and why (see https://www.zhihu.com/question/20703099) @Anke where did you come across this?
