DeFrancis: Skip Intermediate and go straight to Advanced?

I just ordered BCR 1 and 2 plus BC Traditional character version. 

 

The Advanced Reader/Textbook says it can be approached following BCR or ICR. Is that true?

 

I am interested in learning to read, not talk at the moment. The intermediate material seems to be more about the spoken language. 

 

So my question is: Can I skip the Intermediate material and just get the Advanced? Any advice appreciated.

The intermediate readers provide a lot of reading material, introduce 400 new characters and 2500 words which will also appear in the advanced readers. I would recommend not to skip the intermediate readers, the learning curve will be smoother.

In the beginning reading dialogs will still help you primarily with reading and not much with talking anyway.

They're all graded, so just start thumbing from the beginning of Intermediate until you find the selections no longer far too easy for you. We have no idea of your level so we can't tell you where to start.
