Learn Chinese in China

  • Why you should look around

Since 2003, Chinese-forums.com has been helping people learn Chinese faster and get to China sooner. Our members can recommend beginner textbooks, help you out with obscure classical vocabulary, and tell you where to get the best street food in Xi'an. And we're friendly about it too.

Have a look at what's going on, or search for something specific. We hope you'll join us.

@889 Yes but I would say what sort of stir fry, so chicken or beef or whatever not just stir fry on its own as if this explains everything.

No place around to eat except a hotpot restaurant. I don't like hotpot. Well, maybe they have some other stuff, they sometimes do. Let's go in and ask.

你好! 你们这儿还有炒菜吗?

I've done that quite a few times in exactly the same circumstances. And I ask it just like you did in your example.

After this: 对不起,没有炒菜只有火锅, I usually say, 哦,一个人吃火锅不太好玩, as I leave. 那我改天跟朋友们一起回来吃火锅。

Me too, though I usually say, 那,一个人吃火锅不方便 and leave, without pretending I'll be back with my imaginary friends.

(Reminds me of once overhearing a Chinese customer feel he had to explain to the 服务员 that he was eating dinner alone because his friends were all still tied up at work.)
