Jim Posted February 22, 2020 at 02:07 PM Report Share Posted February 22, 2020 at 02:07 PM 恝然 is rarer and more literary but also means unconcerned or indifferent, I think in a slightly more negative sense as compared to, say, Buddhist detachment.
RicBoy Posted February 22, 2020 at 02:12 PM Author Report Share Posted February 22, 2020 at 02:12 PM How about this So what would be the difference between 淡然 and 冷漠
Shelley Posted February 22, 2020 at 02:24 PM Report Share Posted February 22, 2020 at 02:24 PM 淡然 Tranquil and calm, indifferent (quite difficult to write correctly and beautifully) 冷漠 Cold and detached - to something, lack of regard, indifference, neglect This does not really have the same "feel" as the word indifference in english. I think @Jim's single character suggestion is a good choice, get it done by a talented calligrapher and it should look nice. There would be something ironic about it all if you just go ahead and with lack of regard to the advice you have been given and indifferent to the way it will look, get this permanently applied to you. Shelley Posted February 22, 2020 at 02:48 PM Report Share Posted February 22, 2020 at 02:48 PM 3 minutes ago, RicBoy said: 恝 It does mean indifferent, nothing more and nothing less and in the way I think you are aiming for. Thats why I think its a good suggestion. Also being a single character it should be easier to get it done well. The pinyin is jiá, this might help you look it up, steer clear of Google translate for anything important, and i think a tattoo is important, well done for double checking and visiting this forum. Glad you thought it was funny, it was supposed to be
RicBoy Posted February 22, 2020 at 02:52 PM Author Report Share Posted February 22, 2020 at 02:52 PM I'm trying fonts. Can you confirm both these fonts are correct?
Shelley Posted February 22, 2020 at 02:53 PM Report Share Posted February 22, 2020 at 02:53 PM I like the second one on the second row, but also sort of like the third on in the first row. But you choose. The further away from the standard form the less readable and more possible mistakes in the calligraphy. Those fonts are very plain and sort of like using a typewriter font, the ones I pointed out are more artistic but still readable.
RicBoy Posted February 22, 2020 at 02:59 PM Author Report Share Posted February 22, 2020 at 02:59 PM I like the 3rd one on the 1st row. Can you post the link of it to I can print it and send to my tattoo artist?
RicBoy Posted February 22, 2020 at 03:03 PM Author Report Share Posted February 22, 2020 at 03:03 PM I think I like this font bellow looks OK? The indifference I want has to do with being indifferent to any situation in like, as in "dont care", "doesn't affect", "won't react" so it is want means the single character? Shelley Posted February 22, 2020 at 03:03 PM Report Share Posted February 22, 2020 at 03:03 PM No not really. Its your link. I don't know where you got it from or what the font is called.
RicBoy Posted February 22, 2020 at 03:04 PM Author Report Share Posted February 22, 2020 at 03:04 PM So this is ok?
Shelley Posted February 22, 2020 at 03:05 PM Report Share Posted February 22, 2020 at 03:05 PM Yes that is what the single character means. Just now, RicBoy said: So this is ok? No I don't like it. It needs to be more artistic and less like a typewriter font, that is why I prefered no. 2 on the second row.

Tomsima Posted February 22, 2020 at 08:26 PM Report Share Posted February 22, 2020 at 08:26 PM can i urgently point out that this character is incredibly rare and even some (perhaps the majority?) of Chinese people will not know what this character is or means…

Tomsima Posted February 22, 2020 at 08:29 PM Report Share Posted February 22, 2020 at 08:29 PM If it was me, I would suggest you consider the much more widely used but equally eloquent 無動於衷 as suggested by Jim above As for the font choice, way, way better

Tomsima Posted February 23, 2020 at 12:41 AM Report Share Posted February 23, 2020 at 12:41 AM what about 捨得 its a chinese concept of 'letting go of something, being willing to part with', sort of similar to your request about stoicism. It will get people talking about your tattoo in a lot more of an interesting way than 恝 too, in my opinion. 2
