Chinese or Japanese written in Chinese characters?

Hello. I was given the attached print but I do not know if it is in chinese or japanese written in chinese characters. I would greatly appreciate any help. Is it old?, What is it about?.

It appears to be a page from a Zhu Xi (朱熹) work. See here for where I found it and see Wikipedia for a little bit of information on Zhu Xi. I know very little about Zhu Xi and his work (and also I should stop procrastinating looking this up instead of working), but hopefully this helps you a bit.
