@骏马的丕沿🤯 -- What a massive list. If I were asked (forced) to list every single Youtube video on any subject that I have watched in the last 20 or 30 years of my life, my list would still be a lot shorter than the one you have supplied here.

@RedInkstone -- Mine might be shorter than your list too.

Clearly I am behind the times, not "hip," not "with it." (No surprise in that.)

I concentrated on the cooking videos both of you posted. Lots of very slick and imaginative productions. Some too "cute" for my taste, but Impressive as entertainment. I probably am biased against this kind of content when I'm researching a recipe or cooking style. Not a criticism of your selections; more a confession of my less modern, more traditional mindset.

Thank you both for these amazing contributions.

I recently discovered a new channel called 纯纯甘. Each video is a small 10-15 minute documentary, where the host follows a person living in Beijing around for a day. It's very much "a day in the life of a..." type thing. Although it only started uploading just this year, the channel already has over 25k subscribers, and I think its success is well deserved. So far there are 10 videos, featuring such people as a computer programmer, a hairdresser, a vet etc.

This one only really works if you are a beginner, but I watched a video by JJsays - 雪莲说 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGD7pF5iTd8) where she explains how she learned Chinese (speaking in Chinese with English subtitles). It was one of the first videos in Chinese I ever watched that was fully in Chinese, and I thought it was very helpful since the vocabulary she uses (or the topics she talks about) are fairly easy to understand for people who are not yet too advanced.

Another good channel I like to watch is ShuoshuoChinese说说中文. She has educational videos but very often also street interviews, so you can also get a feeling for the more casual spoken Chinese

Thanks, Amy. I like her videos too! I wish all Chinese spoke as clearly as she does.

Also kudos to @StChris for this one (above):

Just finished watching the one about the blind masseuse in Wuhan. Well done and interesting. Some specialized vocabulary plus tons of useful everyday stuff. Looks like it was made for Chinese consumption; not aimed at a foreign audience. I appreciate that.

Glad you enjoyed it. I think that channel provides a great look into everyday life in China.

BTW, I'll be updating the first post of the thread at the end of the year with everyone's recommendations, so everyone keep them coming :)

I found this youtube channel a couple of weeks ago 學中文 Free to Learn

She speaks only in Chinese and introduces vocabularies in various interesting topics. She uploads lessons daily and the things I love about her channel is the fact that she only speaks Chinese, she is not focus on HSK and I like her voice so I often find myself shadowing her while she talks. She talks a bit slow but I don’t mind it that much as I feel the vocabularies she introduces are more for intermediate level and up.

Many thanks for this recommendation. This lady’s presentation style really is very very good. I would go so far as to say the best that I have seen for me.

The length of the videos I have watched so far are just about right. It’s well paced and vocabulary is repeated. Reviewing  sentences and vocabulary are convenient without being lost in a really long video and I am still able to keep my attention span.

Her daily output is equally impressive. hope she can keep it up.

I’m glad people are liking her channel. I listen to each of her lessons 3-4 times now and just rotate them everyday so I can shadow her and also just remember the new vocab or sentence structures she uses.

I do the same thing. Shadowing is good for absorbing native-sounding sentence structure. I've always found that to be very helpful for improving actual speech, even more so than just making flashcards to drill vocabulary words.

It is a bit too early to say as I've only been doing this everyday for a week but I think I actually see improvement in my speaking. I haven't done recording and listening to my own voice yet but today I had a one hour lesson with my teacher and I feel like conversation flowed so much better than usual.

I have been wanting to do shadowing practice consistently for a couple of years now but I just couldn't find a consistent source of audio where I like the speaker's voice and they speak very clearly and not too fast. I will try to keep this up now for a few months and see if I also see consistent result.

I watched this series a while ago.

It's a travel blog of a group of Chinese people in North Korea. It's quite interesting to listen to them chatting with their North Korean guides who have very good Chinese.

Their channel seems to have quite a few travelogues from other countries also, but I haven't watched any of them.

Thanks. This is a great listening test, and interesting. What a good find! (the first few are quite advanced listening, but the talks with the guide are more my level!)

I'm already up to number 6, but I'm not doing my usual rewinding to listen. Instead just listening to the conversations, and seem to understand because of so much repetition (and can get used to the speakers voices), I seem to pick it up quicker. They are all quite simple, just questions and answers. Also, he speaks clearer with the guide and she often asks for more clarification to the question so you hear things twice.

Wow, in 6, I don't know how he thinks of so many questions! haha

Great source for listening this anonymoose! At the stage I am now, I am watching things with hanzi subtitles, but this just works for me, I can glance at the English so I know what's going on (as it changes subjects very quickly), and then I almost know what to listen for.

I woke up late this morning with a terrible hangover, wanted to study a bit but had no energy. I clicked this link and it was just what I needed. The music that starts as they cross the river is also very 好听. The tour guide is very 好看. I watched two of these videos and will continue. I looked it up on Bilibili and it can be seen there with 汉字 rather than English subtitles.
