Living in 北京, I like listening to stuff with a Beijing or at least Northern accent, so that when I run into Lao Beijingers I can get more of what they say. And because the Beijing accent is just my favorite sounding Chinese. This channel seems pretty good for that. Subs aside, the video is not very necessary, it's more for just listening:

I especially like the food ones:

Here's another one I like. This guy has a habit of speaking in really short sentences or chunks, so he ends up being really clear and easy to follow. Something about the way he speaks I find quite funny, like he's always getting really excited. I can't place where he's from, definitely north, not Beijing though. He mixes up his L's and R's. Where do they do that? Somewhere in Dongbei  or Shanxi?

I've been getting into 每日中文课Free To Learn recently.  The videos vary in difficulty, but are usually HSK 4-6 levels.  I like her style---not just saying example sentences, but also multiple alternatives.  She's currently producing videos every day (!!).

This is easily the best "free" teacher on Youtube at the moment. Quality content. 99.9% in Chinese.

Without watching the video, I would guess Shandong.

Really good underrated channel here for Intermediate:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvTOE7i3u5g&t=612s

It's amazing to me how such useful content gets a couple hundred views, while "25 (useless) slang words you MUST learn right now!"  and "Who's better at talking shit Laoma Nyc or Laohu LA?"  gets 10's of thousands of views.

you guys are legends. I am trying to get real familiar with the beijing/dongbei accent so I'm gonna dig through all these channels. I already have (徐晓冬北京格斗狂人 - YouTube), so just need a couple more.

I use BeeCut for speech-to-text transcribing btw. Its $2.50/hour when you buy 10 hours so pretty affordable and is accurate enough so far. Not sure how it fares in noisy environments or multiple speakers yet

That's the insane internet world we live in today. It's the same crazy BS that makes lots of Youtube recipes worthless. At least worthless from an instructional standpoint. They do serve a niche as entertainment. Cheap, lazy entertainment, but entertainment none-the-less.. False-pretense entertainment. Aimed at people who will never in a hundred years actually cook the recipe. Still they comment on it with criticism or praise. It's a game to them. The worst kind of dilettantes. Beneath contempt.

These are the same pitiful fucks who write in "recipe comments", that "I didn't have any rice, so I substituted wheat, and "I was out of butter, so I substituted bacon grease" and "I was out of sugar, so I used black strap molasses." And "Didn't have any eggs, so omitted them." Oh, yes, "No potatoes, so I used carrots." And are not in the least apologetic about it.

Then they have the gall to pass judgement: "And in my opinion, the flavor is there, but the texture is lacking something. Would not make it again, though the concept is brilliant."

This may not be fair, but it the reality of human existance. A mediocre singer in a boyband can make 100s of millions, while the best opera singers make only a fraction of it.

Equally, a well known polyglot might get only a few thousand views (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7P3pHZfVM28) while a Youtuber, who dabbles with multiple languages, has millions of followers (https://www.youtube.com/c/小马在纽约). To be honest, entertainment does matter and it would be good if the "serious" guys could learn a bit from those Youtubers. Arguelles may be super smart, but as a student I would walk out of his classroom and I cannot finish his videos.

So, ideally someone, who entertains and provides quality content.

@abcdefg OMG! I can't tell you how many times your post made me laugh! It's almost epic, lol. When you get on a roll, you get on quite the roll! It would make a great stand-up comedy bit. :D Thanks for making my day! (Although most of my days are already quite great too. :))

On Edit: Oh, please don't get me wrong. To me, stand-up comedy is also an interesting form of getting people to think, when no other form of communication might do so, because it isn't politically correct. There is sometimes an intelligence in stand-up comedy that isn't readily found elsewhere and can at times open up people's minds.

@Jan Finster I think people who both excel at something and have shining personalities tend to be rare-ish. Actually, let me check myself. I think they are not as rare as they are generally portrayed to be. There are people like you who appreciate substance more than style, while it seems like most people seem to prefer style over substance. I also tend to think that many people who are louder with their opinions seem to be more dominant, but actually aren’t to people who know better. As some say, some people know the real truth behind dynamics like these. I believe that people should trust their own good instincts.

Love this one. She speaks so clearly. But just listening, I'm just not quick enough, but with the subs, I can understand 80% at normal speed.

Class find! Thanks!

I am really amazed how many 1 hour interviews he has on his channel. Really easy to understand and full of real life language. He is definitely underappreciated with only about 4100 subscribers.
