realmayo Posted February 17, 2021 at 04:33 PM Report Share Posted February 17, 2021 at 04:33 PM Is anyone (else) remotely superstitious about adding certain words to a vocab list for immediate studying? For instance, if you come across 不及格 might you postpone adding it to your new vocab list until after you've taken the upcoming exam you're fretting over?
alantin Posted February 17, 2021 at 04:51 PM Report Share Posted February 17, 2021 at 04:51 PM I think we need a laugh button to the list of reactions. 😂
abcdefg Posted February 17, 2021 at 05:19 PM Report Share Posted February 17, 2021 at 05:19 PM You could simply add 及格 to your vocab list. As for the 不, don't even go there. 3
mungouk Posted February 18, 2021 at 02:47 AM Report Share Posted February 18, 2021 at 02:47 AM Bad news for any superstitious types aiming for HSK 5... The vocab includes 自杀、离婚、疯、着火、漏、去世 …… and that's just in the first 4 chapters of the textbook. Then again, if you're really superstitious you wouldn't have taken HSK 四级 anyway.
roddy Posted February 18, 2021 at 06:50 AM Report Share Posted February 18, 2021 at 06:50 AM I'm working on an NLP plug-in for Anki which will come preloaded with a flashcard list including the words "success", "good fortune" and "Early Bitcoin purchaser" in 250 languages. Stay tuned.

I don't actually do this myself, but I totally get why you would feel this way. Perhaps add some exam-passing vocab to balance it out? abcdefg Posted February 18, 2021 at 10:06 PM Report Share Posted February 18, 2021 at 10:06 PM Outside Kunming, in the West Hills 西山, many Chinese students climb a narrow, winding path up the side of one mountain to rub the lucky Dragon Gate 龙门。It is especially popular before tough exams, such as the 高考 given every spring to determine university admission. I have rubbed it myself, with uncertain results. (Not my photos -- from Baidu.)
