Atreyyu Posted January 12, 2006 at 07:33 AM Report Share Posted January 12, 2006 at 07:33 AM Does anybody know what characters simp or trad are used in Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi? Is it a difference in it between various levels? Or maybe two styles are mixed together?
roddy Posted January 12, 2006 at 07:45 AM Report Share Posted January 12, 2006 at 07:45 AM Simplified only - it's an official mainland test, you'll never see a traditional character in it. Roddy

johnmck Posted January 12, 2006 at 12:01 PM Report Share Posted January 12, 2006 at 12:01 PM I wouldn't be so negative. You can get HSK character lists the website: http://www.unige.ch/lettres/meslo/chinois/hsk.html The site is in french, you will find the documents at the bottom of the page. This list includes the traditional character if it is different to the simplified one. Some of the simplification follows rules (that you will get the hang of) and others appear arbitary but I guess that once you know the traditional characters it should not be too difficult to learn to recognise the simplified ones (you don't have to write the characters for the HSK). If you are taking the Elem or Intermediate, you can elect to write it in with Traditional characters. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the exam booklet had both, trad on the left page, simplified on the right, made things very easy for the me, since I've kind of had a messed-up Chinese education, I frequently remember one and not the other. Trad chars also make things very easy to "guess" when you are not sure of the meaning, so really, there is no downside to writing in trad. roddy Posted January 12, 2006 at 04:23 PM Report Share Posted January 12, 2006 at 04:23 PM Ah, apologies. I've never seen any traditional characters in the HSK. When was this, and where? It might be recent, or perhaps for exams taken outside mainland China?
smalltownfart Posted January 12, 2006 at 07:09 PM Report Share Posted January 12, 2006 at 07:09 PM I just took the elem HSK in October here in Canada. I don't know for sure if it is just for overseas exams, but the registration form I filled in looked like an official generic form.
