wushijiao Posted January 20, 2006 at 04:05 PM Report Share Posted January 20, 2006 at 04:05 PM Li Yuchun is the girl who won the "Super Girl" competition last year. Now she'll have her own set of stamps for all the 玉米 to buy. http://medianet.qianlong.com/7692/2006/01/19/2220@2977658.htm
Xiao Kui Posted January 24, 2006 at 01:28 AM Report Share Posted January 24, 2006 at 01:28 AM Excuse my ignorance, but can you explain the word 玉米 in this context. The only meaning I know is corn. (And don`t be like Timmy, the Taiwanese boy in my music theory class in high school. It was bad enough he always untied my shoes when I wasn´t looking. But then he taught me to say "Wo tai ben!" in Chinese and said it meant "Good afternoon." He laughed every time I said it. But now I know what it means, Timmy, and I´m gonna laugh last. So if you lie to me abt what the word means I´ll find out eventually!) Thanks!
gato Posted January 24, 2006 at 01:41 AM Report Share Posted January 24, 2006 at 01:41 AM I think it's a play on 宇 (yu3) in her name and 迷 (mi2) (meaning fan). According to wikipedia, it's "宇迷的谐音." Do "粉丝", another new-fangled word for "fans"? It's a natural progression from 粉丝 to 玉米. deezy Posted January 24, 2006 at 02:29 AM Report Share Posted January 24, 2006 at 02:29 AM Damn, I wanna be on a stamp or coin one day. Maybe that should be my new life goal?
Xiao Kui Posted January 24, 2006 at 03:14 AM Report Share Posted January 24, 2006 at 03:14 AM Thanks. Whenever I googled it before all this stuff abt porn (maybe just pictures of scantily clad girls) came up as well as references to supergirl so I didn´t know if it had some kind of weird meaning, though from the context of the original post, fans was the first assumption I made. You Chinese and your puns!
skylee Posted January 24, 2006 at 04:25 AM Report Share Posted January 24, 2006 at 04:25 AM I wanna be on a stamp or coin one day.Maybe that should be my new life goal? It is not that difficult. As long as you are willing to pay HK$2' date='500 (minimum charge), you can have your own designs (including your own look) appearing on real HK stamps -> [url']http://www.hongkongpoststamps.com/eng/stamps/heartwarming_stamps/index.htm[/url]

Haha! When I posted the original link, I had to go through three or four websites before I could find one that included the news of the stamps, without including a bunch of women wearing almost nothing! deezy Posted January 24, 2006 at 02:10 PM Report Share Posted January 24, 2006 at 02:10 PM skylee - True, they have the same thing in the US. You know, that would be a good V-Day gift - stamps with your couple pic on them. Although, I don't need that right now...lol. And, I wonder if you can put ANY photo on these stamps....*snicker*
