hbuchtel Posted May 6, 2006 at 02:37 PM Author Report Share Posted May 6, 2006 at 02:37 PM Thanks Trevelyan, the problem was (is) that I was trying to buy some today and the shop owner did not understand any of the transliterations (?) of teflon that I said. I ended up buying what i think is teflon, but he called it 聚四氟乙烯. He also called it "F4" which seems to be a quality or grade of teflon, so I don't think I'm too far off . . . but I'd like to be sure! hbuchtel Posted May 6, 2006 at 02:41 PM Author Report Share Posted May 6, 2006 at 02:41 PM thanks also xiaoxiajenny, I did try explaining it that way but got no response, perhaps because the owner was selling it in the form of long solid cylinders. hbuchtel Posted May 6, 2006 at 02:57 PM Author Report Share Posted May 6, 2006 at 02:57 PM Well I did a google search for 聚四氟乙烯 (which I should have done in the first place) and yes, it appears that it is another way of saying teflon. Perhaps the chemical name? Thanks anyway for your responses, Henry
Ole Posted May 7, 2006 at 08:11 AM Report Share Posted May 7, 2006 at 08:11 AM Have you searched wikipedia ? "Teflon is the brand name of the polymer polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) discovered by Roy J. Plunkett (1910–1994) of DuPont in 1938 and introduced as a commercial product in 1946. " see:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polytetrafluoroethylene
