Zhende ma? Posted May 14, 2006 at 03:18 PM Report Share Posted May 14, 2006 at 03:18 PM I saw 三角猫 in a movie relating to martial arts but none of my dictionaries defines it. Any help?
skylee Posted May 14, 2006 at 03:22 PM Report Share Posted May 14, 2006 at 03:22 PM probably it is 三腳貓, a description of mediocrity. Take a look -> http://www.iciba.com/search?s=%E4%B8%89%E8%84%9A%E7%8C%AB&t=word〈=utf-
Zhao Hanqing Posted May 15, 2006 at 10:53 PM Report Share Posted May 15, 2006 at 10:53 PM According to my dictionary, sanjiao mao means a jack of all trades. But the meaning may be extended in different contexts. Before consulting my dictionary, I thought the term may mean someone who knows something about a trade or a certain field of learning, but not very good at it. From the single words of the phrase, you can easily guess the meaning. A three-legged cat is no good.
Quest Posted May 16, 2006 at 11:42 PM Report Share Posted May 16, 2006 at 11:42 PM 三脚猫 often goes with 功夫 -> 三脚猫功夫, that's really the only phrase I would use that contains 三脚猫.
semantic nuance Posted June 13, 2006 at 01:20 PM Report Share Posted June 13, 2006 at 01:20 PM This term reminds me of Red House Painters's Three-Legged Cat, a very delightful song. But of course it has nothing to do with 三腳貓 in Chinese.
