jmcbride Posted June 11, 2006 at 09:06 PM Report Share Posted June 11, 2006 at 09:06 PM Does anyone have any experience with the various Chinese character flashcard programs available for Palm? It seems like this would be a great way of practicing character recognition on commutes and during boring meetings! I noticed that Clavis Sinica just came out with a new one, but I haven't tried it yet.
gato Posted June 12, 2006 at 12:27 AM Report Share Posted June 12, 2006 at 12:27 AM I use PlecoDict all the time for its flashcard system. It's the best system available because of its integration with the dictionary. You can import a list of Chinese characters, and PlecoDict will fill in the pinyin and definition for you. That saves you an incredible amount of time. http://www.plecoforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=614 How to set up the flashcards http://www.plecoforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=516 Two flashcard lists: idioms and most frequently used characters http://pleco.com/pdscreenshots.html Some screenshots Many others here are enthusiastic users of PlecoDict, see http://www.chinese-forums.com/index.php?/topic/6966-palm-pleco-software-which-dictionary&highlight=pleco Palm - pleco software - which dictionary ? student Posted June 12, 2006 at 02:59 AM Report Share Posted June 12, 2006 at 02:59 AM I'm actually a big fan of Dragon Character Training, freeware from http://dragon-char.sourceforge.net/ While development on it seems to have halted, it has several modes: (1) given pinyin/english, select character; (2) given character, select pinyin/definition; and (3) given pinyin and definition, write the character. I find the third mode particularly valuable. Training sets are available for PCR (both traditional and simplified) and for HSK. I wish I had mastered them all! Unfortunately, I am still far from that end...
