venture160 Posted June 28, 2006 at 02:12 PM Report Share Posted June 28, 2006 at 02:12 PM I have now rented my apartment for 1 month in Beijing, but because of being extremely busy at work I have not gotten my residence permit yet. I need to get one because I will be studyiny at RenDa in the fall and applying for a new visa. am I screwed because I have waited this long, I am guessing they want to see my rental agreement that has a date on it. I think my land-lady would be willing to sign a new one with a different date on it, she's pretty cool and I dont think would want this kind of trouble as well. Anyone know if this is going to be a problem?
roddy Posted June 28, 2006 at 02:37 PM Report Share Posted June 28, 2006 at 02:37 PM You mean the resident permit that goes in your passport that you get from the PSB at Yonghegong, or the registration document from the local police station? If it's the resident permit, you're going to have to hope the PSB are in a good mood. If it's the registration document from the local police station, they generally seem to let people off with the fine (maximum of 500Y) if they are apologetic. I'm guessing this is the one you want. A new contract will probably do the trick also.
venture160 Posted June 28, 2006 at 11:34 PM Author Report Share Posted June 28, 2006 at 11:34 PM i think its the 暂住证 I just have to go to the local PSB to get it.
roddy Posted June 29, 2006 at 02:03 AM Report Share Posted June 29, 2006 at 02:03 AM Your worst case scenario is a 500Y fine and a talking to. Apologizing, claiming you only just learnt about the requirement, etc, may help. What visa are you on now?
venture160 Posted June 29, 2006 at 02:48 AM Author Report Share Posted June 29, 2006 at 02:48 AM F Visa issued in Harbin for HIT, valid for another month and a half. I can just say I was in Harbin studying actually.
roddy Posted June 29, 2006 at 02:53 AM Report Share Posted June 29, 2006 at 02:53 AM I'm not sure what I'd do in that situation. What's your current status. I might be inclined to wait until you are about to start study, and then you have a purpose for being in Beijing. Having said that, the local police never seem to care what you are up to. venture160 Posted June 29, 2006 at 02:57 AM Author Report Share Posted June 29, 2006 at 02:57 AM Yea, this had made me realize that I could prob live in Beijing for a long time, and when I was about to leave the country just pick up a 30 day tourist visa, although if I wanted to travel anywhere I might have some problems. I am really not too worried about it. The PSB have no way of knowing when I actually relocated to Beijing, the only person that knows that could possible bring me trouble is my landlady, but she is very co-operative. Essentially I am going to get 1-2 months of unaccounted for time in Beijing.
venture160 Posted June 29, 2006 at 02:59 AM Author Report Share Posted June 29, 2006 at 02:59 AM WHat is the difference between those 2 documents btw? I have always had my school to take care of these things, I've never needed a residence permit before, just the vias and I was set. I was told by my landlady I just need to get a document from the PSB. In what case do I need that fancy residence permit?
roddy Posted June 29, 2006 at 03:00 AM Report Share Posted June 29, 2006 at 03:00 AM Don't see why you'd have any trouble traveling anywhere at all. As long as you have a valid visa, you are fine. Only trouble you may have is when you come to renew (where you been? what you been doing?). As always with visa issues though, Caveat audiens - "let the listener beware"
