colour wolf Posted June 27, 2009 at 11:58 PM Report Share Posted June 27, 2009 at 11:58 PM Meeting my long term girlfriends (not first time for wat it is worth) parent who don't drink and are somewhat well off. Im living in the UK currently. Please can anyone suggest a suitable gift? Ive seen lots of threads like this (most suggest alcohol, hence this thread- alcohol is a useless idea!) If anyone could suggest a gift idea, I would really appreciate it!
imron Posted June 28, 2009 at 01:24 AM Report Share Posted June 28, 2009 at 01:24 AM Are the parents in the UK too?
Xiwang Posted June 28, 2009 at 07:12 AM Report Share Posted June 28, 2009 at 07:12 AM I hear that Western perfume might be good. Chinese seem to like things with well-known luxury brand names.
jonny.potter Posted June 28, 2009 at 09:02 AM Report Share Posted June 28, 2009 at 09:02 AM No need to spend too much on exotic presents, keep it simple. Flowers for the mum and wine for the dad is what people usual give their in-laws in the UK.
skylee Posted June 28, 2009 at 12:25 PM Report Share Posted June 28, 2009 at 12:25 PM How about expensive chocolates? Or a pot of elegantly arranged orchids?
anonymoose Posted June 28, 2009 at 01:06 PM Report Share Posted June 28, 2009 at 01:06 PM How about a plunger or a set of bagpipes or even a USB extension cable ?
renzhe Posted June 28, 2009 at 01:47 PM Report Share Posted June 28, 2009 at 01:47 PM I don't know why, but that made me LOL.
Lu Posted June 28, 2009 at 02:19 PM Report Share Posted June 28, 2009 at 02:19 PM If the parents are also in the UK: flowers, chocolats, or something else that you would normally bring when you go to visit people. If they are in China: something nice that's typical to the UK, candy or sth, or souvenirs. If they have been to the UK: something they liked when they were there, or something you told them about, or something that would remind them of something they liked doing/seeing. simonlaing Posted June 30, 2009 at 07:54 AM Report Share Posted June 30, 2009 at 07:54 AM In China food of some sort is appreciated. A fruit basket might be good. Also special sanck food if you know what they like. Ask your girlfriend what her family likes and get that for them. Some like clothing accessories like scarfs or ties. Good luck, Simon:)
SkyFitsHeaven Posted July 4, 2009 at 08:30 AM Report Share Posted July 4, 2009 at 08:30 AM Bringing new, fresh currency from your home country is something always appreciated by Chinese people. Even if it's in the smallest denomination, I find it's always a hit!
