  2. Are you talking about the incorrect tone placement? That’s because it is running in ‘unchecked’ mode, so pinyinput will put the tone on the last letter you typed. If you put it in checked mode it will place the tone in the correct place for the syllable.

  3. @kenny China/HK/Macau quarantine rules are strict. Not enough people are vaccinated and even if they were, China will not let people in without quarantine (unless you have some sort of special exemption). At the moment, HK is 14 day quarantine plus another 7 days self monitoring for those who are vaccinated. Even a country that handles Covid really badly such as U.K. (just a flu) still has quarantine for most countries. I can’t imagine mainland China having less strict quarantine rules compared to U.K.! Any easing of quarantine rules in China will

  4. Glad you had a good time in Kunming, @Kenny. I would have loved to show you around, but unfortunately I've been in the US since the start of last year. Been unable to return to Kunming because of the Covid travel restrictions. July and August are peak times for wild mushrooms in Yunnan, so your timing was perfect!

  5. I'm still in the US, Kenny, so this information is not first hand. But a look at the travel regulations just now suggests that quarantine is still possible. The wording has changed slightly, suggesting that it might not be required 100% of the time. It also talks about the sort of testing which is required in order to board the flight from US to China. Here's the source: https://www.iatatravelcentre.com/world.php. That is a good place to quickly see the

  6. It hasn't been mentioned in this thread yet, but the 得到 app has paid video lectures on some of those topics. Its free flagship podcast 逻辑思维 is pretty good listening practice because the host 罗振宇 usually touches on a lot of different topics over the course of a 60 minute episode. Like 李永乐, some have criticized the shallow way some of the topics are treated.

  7. @imronHello, Imron The keyboard layout, which I used as installing the Pinyinput, has disappeared in the Menu (screenshot). It was Australian keyboard, it's not there. And because of that, probably, it types pinyin wrongly all the time. What should I do?

  8. Let's remember that for many learners, the idea of learning Hanzi from the start can be so overwhelming it will turn you off from learning Chinese at all. Hanzi > Pinyin, but Pinyin > not learning because you're intimidated.

  9. You'd be surprised at how easy it is to learn Traditional after knowing Simplified, especially if you're only going for literacy and not character production. Just learn all the radicals and 50 or so of the most common different Traditional characters (后 for example) and you'll be able to read traditional decently well actually. There are lots of common correspondence patterns, and context will often take care of the rest. I can (strenuously, but can) read Traditional and I've never directly studied it beyond just learning the radicals and some weird characters for fun sometimes.
