CSC 2015 for Master's no longer has 1 year language training?

Hi everyone,

I was informed today that the Chinese Government Scholarship 2015 for a Master's degree no longer offered the possibility of taking a 1 year language training beforehand, and hence that I should be applying as much as possible with a foreign supervisor or at least one that speaks very good english.

Is this true? Just to be clear, I was informed of this by the Montreal embassy.

Since I am more interested in learning Chinese than obtaining a Chinese Master's degree, this no longer seems like a very exciting option. Are there alternatives?

Is the Chinese Training 1 year program without degree still offered?

And if so, am I allowed to apply both to this program and the Master's program at the same time?

Sincerely,
Samuel

Why not just do a year in China in a language school.

Learning Chinese even full time for a year just puts the average student at an 'OK' level I guess. (HSK 4).

Maybe I'm misreading your intentions Samuel!

Seconded with Johnny20270 above.

Does the CSC no longer over a scholarship for one or two years of just Chinese language study?

I hope they still do, because I am intending to apply to the CSC for a full scholarship of just one year of language study ("general scholar" option).

Warm regards,

No disrespect meant, SamuelLaf, but I would look into this again from a few more sources: is the CSC really doing away with one year of Chinese language preparation coursework before entry into a Master's degree program? I wonder about this and am skeptical.

@SamuelLaf ...i asked my embassy today, and she said we still can study masters with one year chinese. :)  (i have the email if you want to see)

also, i found this on the chinese nanjing university site: "本奖学金项目接受汉语水平尚不符入学要求但在专业领域表现优秀的申请者,如若成功申请奖学金,必须在2015年9月入学后进行为期一学年的汉语补习,学习结束后考试合格者方可进入专业学习,"

its saying if our chinese level is not high enough to enter the university we must take a year of chinese before our major (for september 2015). so...yeah, if I was a chinese university, i'd want my waiguoren to learn chinese, wouldn't you too?
