qun/chun & ri/re

i know the differences in pronounciation of many 'q' and 'ch' pinyin, for eg:

chuan is chu-wan, and

quan is chu-an

but, what differences are there in the pronounciation for qun/chun and ri/re.

especially the first one

i have a feeling for the second one and that is that 're' kinda carries on the 'e' a bit longer, like ri-e, am i correct?

The u in "quan" is actually ü. The u in "chuan" is "u".

/chun/ vs /qun/: the initial consonants are different: /ch/ vs /q/; the vowels are also different: /u/ vs /ü/. Obviously you can hear the differences and read about them from the links given above, but if you are already familiar with the pair /chu/ vs /qu/, then this pair /chu/ vs /qu/ represents identical differences to /chun/ vs /qun/ .

/ri/ vs /re/: the only difference is in the vowels and the best way to hear the diference is to listen to them using the links provided.

we can clearly see that you mean the u in "u-wan" is like glue whereas the u in "u-an" is the u in rue de...Cannes?.

for qun/chun it's the difference between ü (chu-an) and ^ (cut, crud).

for ri/re you're correct about the 'e'.

wontonsoup, I am so sorry that I did not read you post carefully and did not provide the most appropriate information in my #2.

ok, i think i kinda get it now

chun is like saying 'chu' then just ending with the 'n'

and

qun is like chuen (with the dots on top of 'u')

thanks guys, i used to actually pronounce them both the same way, with the latter one

On q / ch, this might be useful - difference between q and ch.
