'还都' means 'just so so'. '都还' means 'all are ok'.

They are living a not-so-bad but peaceful(ordinary, plain) life.

(Mr X has two children,) his children both live a good life.

Thank you very much, self-taught-mba.

I believe you mean to say "not-so-bad" or "not-bad" right? "Not-so-good" would be negative, and this is not what this sentence conveys.

Dōu used before bú cuò is to emphasize / quantify the adverb (bú cuò) (like saying "quite"), but it's used to refer to the people (like saying "both / all") in your sentence.

Actually, in my sentence I thought I was emphasising 日子, as in 所有的日子都过得还不错

Sorry mixed up your second sentence with this one:

(Mr X has two children,) his children both live a good life.

Confused now, going to bed. Sorry. I'm tired.,

We can understand what you mean.
Actually' date=' in my sentence I thought I was emphasising 日子, as in 所有的日子都过得还不错 (if that makes sense )[/quote'] I think I knew it. Did you want to express: 'All these days....'? 日子 in your sentence means 'Life' not 'Day'. If you want to say 'every aspect of your life is OK.' use: If you want to say 'several people's lives are OK' use

Personal opinion only.:)
