Non-CUSC i.e. institutional scholarships

Looking up the EU Chinese Government Scholarship eligibility, they've set it at 25 for a language student. At 30 I'm too old (sniff). So, I'm now researching the institution's own scholarships as listed on the CUCAS website. I do see that many aren't the "full ride" type. But any money is good money.

Has anyone applied for and/or received one of these?

The CUCAS Scholarship is open since October 2010, so there is no student has received before.

The CUCAS Excellent Students Scholarship for spring semester intake will be announced on Feb.15th 2011 and 3 students will be awarded, including 1 first prize with 2000 US Dollars and 2 second prize with 1000 US Dollars.

The deadline for application is January 30th 2011.

I was sort of aware but had initially dismissed it as it was not a "full ride". I've read all the requirements again and I do think I could be competitive.

Unfortunately, I need to save money for living expenses and travel first, so I could not apply at the moment. It would be for fall/autumn at the earliest.

Anyone else on the forum going for it?

I have seen that there are some provincial scholarships as well that I might be able to apply for.

Incase anyone else is not eligible for the Chinese Government Scholarships, I've just found this:

Tuition and accomodation free in exchange of 8 hours a week English tutoring, 12 hours a week gives you a 1000RMB monthly payment as well. Have emailed to see how many of these they offer a year.

Local Government Scholarships for incoming Chinese language students (non degree seeking). Normally you can't use these to top up a Chinese Government Scholarship

Beijing- 1 year max, 10,000 RMB, high school grad under 60

Chongqing- (full scholarship) tuition, books, accomodation, 1000 RMB per month (partial scholarship) 15,000RMB

Dalien- 1 year min- 5,000 RMB per year

Hubei- under 35, 8000 RMB per year

Institutional Scholarships for incoming language students (non degree)

Beijing Foreign Studies University- full or partial tuition fees

Binzhou- no specifics known

Nanchang- upto 30 partial scholarships

Southwestern University of Finance and Economics- full fees or half fees

Xi'an Jiaotong- everyone who applies by end of June gets 10,000 RMB. Full tuition for 1st class scholarship.

Zhejiang Gongshang - must be under 45 and studying for at least 1 year- 2,000/1500/1000 RMB

Jinan University, Shandong Province is giving free tuition plus tutoring from trainee teachers:

Just to update this thread incase anyone else can use it:

Wuhan University has a co-op scheme for Chinese language learners. You pay the 16500rmb tuition for the year for the full time (20 hour a week Chinese course). You work for 10 x45 lessons per week (so 5 double lessons) teaching English and receive 3000rmb per month from which you can afford to live and pay for accomodation.
