It was a good challenge and I'm already on to this week's puzzle ... Here are a few things I observed along the way: 1. I’m not sure how difficult this puzzle would be for a native speaker -- whether it is on par with a “Monday” New York Times puzzle (the easiest of the week) or a “Saturday” one (notoriously difficult) -- I noticed that a few of the answers were obvious, e.g., those that simply ask for the 汉字 for English or other language equivalents (Nemo = 尼莫) 2. Some clues are unusually long and informative, for example, 一个著名的国际节日, 最初源于1857年3月美国纽约服装和纺织女工举行的反对非人工作环境的抗议 ... In a Western puzzle we might expect: “Global holiday, Mar. 8th” -- with “March” abbreviated to show that the answer is an abbreviation (IWD) ... 3. The puzzle's pattern is asymmetrical; if you read it from left to right, it looks more like an acrostic than a crossword puzzle; and now that I think of it, an acrostic in Chinese would be kind of fun too ... 4. Surprisingly, the clues can contain characters that are repeated in the answer; for example, for 希腊的著名半岛; 提醒一下,某位古希腊人的著名作品叫做"伯罗奔尼撒战记"哟, the answer is 伯罗奔尼撒半岛 -- in this case all of the characters in the answer also are found in the clue ... 5. It is permissible to repeat a character in answers that do not cross; for example, 尼莫 and伯罗奔尼撒半岛 (“尼” is used twice in separate words) ... 6. The editors are not above resorting to the occasional word game, as in “中人和保人” = 中保 7.
