shuibianmao Posted July 29, 2007 at 08:06 AM Report Share Posted July 29, 2007 at 08:06 AM Hi Folks, I'm a Chinese man,25 years old living in Shanghai. Glad to see that you are interested in my mother tongue. Recently, I'm doing a investigation for our company's program. To save you time, I made a online survey form as below. I'm very appreciated that if you can help, tks! https://www.icebrrg.com/public/viewform.aspx?FormID=5607
adrianlondon Posted July 29, 2007 at 10:22 AM Report Share Posted July 29, 2007 at 10:22 AM Will you post the results back here on this forum, especially as it seems you're only collecting results from chinese-forum members ? I think it could be very interesting.
shuibianmao Posted July 29, 2007 at 11:10 AM Author Report Share Posted July 29, 2007 at 11:10 AM Of course, I will post result here. There are many people who came from different countries and living in different culture on Chinese-forums. So I think it should be a good place to get enough info. tony1343 Posted July 29, 2007 at 01:20 PM Report Share Posted July 29, 2007 at 01:20 PM The last question is a little confusing. You ask how much is appropriate for a chinese tutor. Is this in China, over the internet, or in America (or other country)? Obviously, I would be willing to pay a lot more for a tutor when I am in America, since there are less qualified tutors available. Over the internet and in China, I would want to pay much less because (a) there are many more qualified tutors (supply and demand) and (B) the cost of living is much, much cheaper in China. shuibianmao Posted July 29, 2007 at 03:20 PM Author Report Share Posted July 29, 2007 at 03:20 PM Oh, it is a dicfficult question to answer to. My mother tongue is Chinese, Mandarin and Shanghainese only are two kinds of accent for Chinese language. Shanghainese is dialect of Shanghai, somone who grew up in this city can speak it. I only can speark Mandarin because I just came here about 2 years ago. Hope you can understand....

magores Posted July 30, 2007 at 11:24 AM Report Share Posted July 30, 2007 at 11:24 AM I applaud the efforts of the original poster, but I have some serious qualms with the survey itself. --- For example, the survey asks for first name, last name, etc, but then says, "Your username is good enough." Address, street, etc? ... "Country is good enough." --- And, most of the other fields were "open-ended" questions. Open-ended questions give a lot of room for variations in answers. 5 people, with essentially the same career, can give 5 different answers to the question: "What is your job?" It takes a skilled pollster to reconcile the differences in descriptions that people may give. For a poll like this, sometimes, you MUST have people choose from a predefined list. Otherwise, it is difficult to quantify the results. --- Pls? Hot? tks? Please don't insult my intelligence. --- How do I learn Chinese? My main resource was omitted. -->From friends/co-workers --- Suitable amount for a tutor? I answered 0 (zero). Do you want to know why? I would have told you, but there was no place for me to do so. --------------- If you are doing a poll like this for school research, then the questions were done badly. If this is just a way to find out names of people that you can contact in order to offer tutoring services, then there are better ways to do it. --- Sorry if all this sounds harsh, but it's how I see it. shuibianmao Posted July 30, 2007 at 12:40 PM Author Report Share Posted July 30, 2007 at 12:40 PM Hello Magroes, Let me explain the form 1) This online software only has this format for "name" and " where" I haven't other choices... 2) Again, this software doesn't have predefined format.... 3) "Pls? Hot? tks?" Sorry for my bad English skill, I think I have to spent more time on it... 4) "How do I learn Chinese" Mmmm... I will add your method into my form. You are right, learning from friends also is a good method. 5) " Price", I think the reason for the payment maybe is people's private info. I don't wish this form seems offensive or impolite. By the way, thanks for your checking of my form. My company is preparing a software to help foreigners learn Chinese language. But I can't talk too much about it now...
