Hi all, this is my first post.

My girlfriend has just had a tattoo done on her wrist, can someone comfirm what it says. Although she is happy with it, I just cant take the tattoists word for it and would like to make sure it says what it is meant to say (for her sake)

Here is a link to the picture

It is made up of two individual characters.

By itself, the top character 利 lì, means profit, interest; advantage; benefit

The bottom character 娅 yà, is (only?) used in the word 姻娅, which means relatives by marriage/inlaws.

When put together, who knows what they're supposed to mean? Perhaps the pronunciation of the characters is supposed to be an approximation of your girlfriend's name?

Finally, if you haven't already, you might like to check out http://www.hanzismatter.com

I'm guessing your GF's name is Lea or Leah (or something that sounds similar). If so, and if she wanted a transliteration of her name, the tattooist did a fine job. The characters don't add up to anything very meaningful apart from that. Calligraphy looks fine too.
