Short Intensive Course in Kunming

Recommended Posts

OK so i've thought and researched for a while and i've decided that Kunming is probably the place to go to learn a bit more Mandarin. Mainly down to the weather as I'll be arriving in December time... But even still i want to just do a one month intensive course first at the uni there just to make sure i'll enjoy it before i commit myself long term, and therein lies the point of the post...

Can someone point me to some decent info on Kunming Uni, I've searched the web but the official website is all in Chinese as far as i can see?

Does anyone know if it is indeed possible to do a one month intensive (4hrs a day) course there? Is there certain times of the year when they start or could i just turn up pretty much any time? How much is it likely to cost?

Visas, I'll be getting a tourist visa beforehand. I understand they typically last 30 days, would I be able to get that extended in Kunming? For how long?

A lot of questions i know but the time to leave is creeping up on me and i'm starting to get to the point where i need some concrete information before i start panicking! (why is there a 'k' in panicking, but not in panic?)

So, any help will as always be much appreciated, xiexie!

classes will still be in session in december, if you have prior study you can just join an

ongoing class. if you prefer one-one, cost is usually 50 rmb/hour. tutoring won't

resemble the group classes, so ask to sit in on a couple classes as well.

school should be able to convert your tourist visa to student visa. ask them first, as i'm

not sure of the process. once you get your student visa, you need a residence permit

(which will be valid for however long you pay tuition).
