China Multi-entry visa

It won't be any cheaper in Hong Kong than Chicago, and you probably stand a better chance of getting a one-year multiple-entry visa in Chicago under the supposedly-reciprocal agreement between the US and China.

Hong Kong, though, is a convenient place to get visas for those who need to get their visas quickly and don't live near a Chinese consulate.

Hong Kong is great for a lot of expats who have odd visa arrangements where renewal requires them to physically leave the country and re-enter. I honestly haven't quite figured why that is but whatever works for them, I guess. Wherever you are, the cost of the visa should be the same because it is determined by your nationality, unless you're talking about visa procurement services. Either way, it doesn't make sense to spend the money to go to Hong Kong to get your visa when you can do it at home. Cheers, mate.
