82riceballs Posted September 20, 2007 at 08:10 PM Report Share Posted September 20, 2007 at 08:10 PM What is 頭款? I read it in the dictionary example for 一文不名: 付了頭款,我就一文不名了。 However, I can't find it in any dictionaries (probably because it's a compound word. Can someone explain what it means please? Thanks. rose~ Posted September 20, 2007 at 09:20 PM Report Share Posted September 20, 2007 at 09:20 PM I think "頭" means it comes first (similar to "at the head" of a list etc.), so it's a payment ("款") that comes first i.e. a deposit or inital payment. ABCinChina Posted September 21, 2007 at 05:47 AM Report Share Posted September 21, 2007 at 05:47 AM I'm guessing it means "first paragraph" or "first...(something)". Any other ideas?
abuck Posted September 21, 2007 at 07:22 AM Report Share Posted September 21, 2007 at 07:22 AM I'm pretty sure it translates to "down payment"

82riceballs Posted September 22, 2007 at 03:10 PM Author Report Share Posted September 22, 2007 at 03:10 PM Also, I'm wondering if it would make sense to say 頭款付了,我就一文不名了。. Or would it have to be "頭款付完了, 我就一文不名了"?
